Calamine is a mixture of zinc oxide (ZnO) with about 0.5% iron(III) oxide (Fe2O3). It is the main ingredient in calamine lotion and is used as an antipruritic to treat sunburn, eczema, rashes, poison ivy, chickenpox, insect bites and stings. It is used as a mild antiseptic to prevent infections that can be caused by scratching the affected area. It is also used to dry weeping or oozing blisters and acne abscesses - (source Wikipedia) Calamine lotion is used for protecting & soothing the skin after stings, bites or other skin irritations caused by poison oak, poison sumac, poison ivy or sunburn. Do not use Calamine lotion if you are allergic to it. Instructions for use: Please wash and clean affected area, shake bottle of calamine lotion before use, apply calamine lotion to affected area with a cotton swab or cloth. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. In case of ingestion, please contact poison control at 1-800-222-1222. Store Calamine lotion at 59 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C), approximately room temperature and keep away from moisture, heat and light.
